Introduction to Magnetic Therapy

Biomagnetic Therapy - alternatively known as magnetic therapy, magnetic therapy, medical magnets, and magno-therapy - is generally considered an "alternative," or "non-traditional"' method for treatging pain. Magnetic therapy products are also used as a tools to improve overall health and increase energy and vitality. Even though the use of magnets for their health promoting properties has been recorded by many and varied cultures for thousands of years, "traditional," or "western" medical practitioners, especially in the United States, have been generally reluctant to acknowledge the benefits magnetic therapy products and devices. The primary basis of these theories of biomagnetism relate to the fact that the earth's powerful magnetic field has a significant impact on all living things, and that life itself is actually dependent on magnetic energy. Additionally, exposing the body to magnetic fields is thought to positively affect the nervous, circulatory and endocrine systems by increasing the electrical conductivity of blood, resulting in improved ciruclation, as well as an increase in the efficiency of the transport of oxygen and carbon dioxide throughout the body.

However, because there haven't been a large number of double-blind studies, the primary evidence for the success of therapy magnets as a healing tool is anecdotal evidence - personal stories of people who have achieved positive results from magnetic healing: from as minor a problem as relieving nagging chronic pain, to an overall increase in energy, up to major changes in quality of life. Anecdotal evidence isn't accepted as empirical proof, but the overwhelming amount of positive anecdotal evidence regarding biomagnetic therapy is hard to ignore, and suggests a connection between magnets and health. A few recent studies have shown that 70% of people who used magnetic therapy for pain relief achieved significant improvement within as little as 5 days. There is no guarantee that medical magnets will help any specific individual, but there are also no known harmful side-effects.

Magnet therapy has been shown to successfully treat a wide range of medical disorders. There are a variety of magnetic therapy products, such as magnetic therapy bracelets and other magnetic jewelry, as well as magnetic therapy braces, supports, and other devices designed to heal and alleviate pain for virtually every part of the body.
